SALSA FAQS
Q. What is Salsa?
A. Salsa is a street dance that is fast gaining popularity here in the Klang Valley! While many different styles of Salsa exist; here in New Star Studio, we teach the Latin American (or L. A.) style that is dominant in the local scene. Whether it is done casually or as a performance, Salsa is mainly a couple dance, though there are also individual moves (or shines) which a person can do, occasionally.
Q. Why learn Salsa?
A. In addition to being a great form of stress-relieving exercise, Salsa is also a great way to socialize, make friends and improve your confidence both on and off the dance floor!
Q. Am I too old/young to do Salsa?
A. There’s never a “wrong age” to learn Salsa! There are Salsa dancers of all ages – from 6 to 60 – that are having the time of their life burning the dance floor!
Q. Is Salsa difficult to learn? Do I need any dance experience before starting Salsa?
A. Absolutely not! Children and the elderly do it, so you definitely can too! Prior dance experience is not necessary, though a passion/commitment to practicing consistently helps. :)
Q. I don’t have a dance partner to bring along! Can I still join the classes?
A. Most definitely! A permanent dance partner is not necessary to get started; in fact, our students constantly rotate partners to keep the experience fun and exciting for everyone!
Q. Must I own a pair of dance shoes/high heels before taking classes?
A. Not necessarily. You can come to class either bare-footed or with socks. However, we do recommend buying a pair if you find yourself interested in Salsa and intend to dance for long. You can buy footwear either from us, or from any of the shoe shops listed here.
Q. Do you offer private classes?
A. Yes, we do! Contact our principal Salsa instructor, Jenni Tan for more information at 013-6893888. Please note that fees for private classes are separate from regular classes, though.
Q. I’ve heard about something called “social dance”. What is it?
A. Social dance is a term we use to describe where people from different dance schools get together at a club or a restaurant to mingle and dance together. It’s a also a great chance to improve on those Salsa moves you practiced in class!
